It is the local transport hub for the south bank, and is the seat of Brikama Area Council, which is the largest Council in the country, and is responsible for over a quarter of the nation’s population. The Gambia College and the University of The Gambia are situated in Brikama.
What: WEC established ‘Hands on Care’ in Brikama, a ministry to meet the medical and spiritual needs of the chronically ill (including HIV/AIDS and TB) of the Brikama area. The work was subsequently handed over to a local NGO, and now WEC continues as the chairperson of the Board for ‘Hands on Care’. At present WEC has a couple who are doing a youth ministry running a football club, library, and afterschool classes and a single who is seconded a maths Professor to The University of The Gambia.
